Why Become a Developer/Collaborative Member ?

We want our developers to own the company.  If you are a developer you probably love developing new projects and seeing your ideas become a reality.  Having a program being used by a customer is a great feeling - TechBank’s founders know exactly how that feels, having been there and done that many times over.  TechBricks are currently being used all over the world in diverse industries. On the ground, this means that we make sure Angie gets more bookings for her BnB in British Columbia, we help feed malnourished children in central London and keep contractors and hotel staff safe in Baghdad.

We know that having a great piece of software is only one step in the journey.  It’s painful to think of all the ideas that don’t quite make it.  All the time it takes to make a truly awesome piece of code means there are not many hours left to network and schmooze with potential customers, market and polish your product and deal with contracts and accounts.  In the words of Zed Shaw, "you should be programming, moth******ker!"

TechBank aim to help developers reach their full potential.  However, we go about it in a unique way.  Everyone has heard the horror stories of developers who sold the rights to their code for a few thousand pounds only to see the value rocket into the millions.  For every one of those there are people who turned down thousands of pounds of investment capital and then floundered under the pressure of trying to do everything themselves.

If you are accepted as a TechBank developer you get paid for your intellectual property not in cash but in shares.  (To be 100% accurate in share options, more details of the legal way this all works are available.) You get cash every time we sell an installation of your software.  (You can also make extra cash working as a TechBank installer, deploying your own work in the real world.)

You now have the best of all worlds.  If your idea makes TechBank millions then congratulations, your shares are now worth millions.  If the idea doesn’t catch on but another developer's does?  Congratulations, your shares are now worth millions.  Your risk is shared with all other TechBank developers.  Only one has to be success for your shares to increase in value.  If you think that you could do better on your own you can sell your shares back to TechBank after 3-5 years and retain your IP  (This is where the difference between shares and options comes in.)

Choose wisely.  Selling your IP for cash is a safe bet but you might lose out if your idea becomes really successful.  Going it alone can be hard and if your idea doesn't take off you may find yourself in debt and with nothing to show for it.  As a TechBank collaborator you get the best case either way, since you own shares in TechBank.

In addition to a mechanism to pool risk you will also have access to the TechBank's sales channel, collaboration with the rest of the 'owners' and access to our funding channels.  The company's sales team are a motivated group of “old school” sales people.  People who can instantly develop a rapport with a customer.  They have networks of contacts that have taken years to build and they have the skills to make sure everyone walks away happy.
